Dr. Dan Plews

Dan has been competing in triathlons since he was 9 years old and remains a keen athlete today.

Dan Plews is an applied sports scientist, researcher, and coach. As a sports scientist specializing in physiology, Dan has worked closely with athletes who have won more than 30 world and Olympic titles in rowing, kayaking, and triathlon.

As a researcher, Dan completed his PhD in applied heart rate variability (HRV). His work focused on implementing and validating methods for applying HRV to track training adaptation in elite athletes. Since then, Dan has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and has garnered over 3,200 citations in applied sports science and exercise physiology.

Dan served as the Head of Physical Performance at Emirates Team New Zealand during their 2021 America's Cup-winning campaign and leads performance physiology for Women's Canoe Racing New Zealand. He is also the founder of Endure IQ.

Dan is passionate about endurance sports, particularly Ironman triathlon. He has coached numerous high-level professionals, including 2022 Ironman World Champion Chelsea Sodaro. He lives and breathes endurance sports and is a competitive Ironman athlete himself. In 2018, he broke the amateur course record at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, with a time of 8 hours and 24 minutes. In 2023, at the age of 41, he set an astonishing time of 7 hours and 56 minutes for the Ironman triathlon distance.

Dan thrives on continuous learning and staying at the cutting edge of applied sports science.
